Yo, La Tengo

Any opinions on Yo La Tengo in general, and their new album I Am Not Afraid Of You And I Will Beat Your Ass in particular? It seems like every time I hear a Yo La Tengo song, in particular songs off the new album, I find myself thinking 'hey, this is good, who is this?' and then I check KEXP's playlist and think 'oh yeah, it's Yo La Tengo. Huh, I guess I should pick this up.'

They're playing The Showbox on Sunday October 15, I should probably go. But I've already got plans to see Ladytron (yes, again) with friends on Friday the 13th, also at the Showbox, and I'm not sure I want to go there twice in a weekend. It's on the expensive end for me, and I found my choices there are to put up with the huge crush of people at the stage, which gradually irritates me past enjoying the show, or to stay to the back where I can have breathing room and even get a good view of the stage but of course can't see as well due to distance.

Re: Your October Show
Is there a better live show than Melissa Ferrick? Dude, I've been to a lot of live shows better than the Ferrick show I went to. Joe Jackson on the Night and Day II tour, TMBG, the Goldfrapp show I just went to... She's not bad by any means, but I can't think of anything particularly outstanding about her performance. Then again I'm not the freak who's been stalking her for ten or more years now...

I did know that she's playing the Crocodile that night, and it did give me pause if only because my friend Marie likes Ferrick too, but I already had plans with other friends to go see Ladytron, and I'd rather see Ladytron. Hmm, maybe Marie would be up for a one-day trip to Portland...

Re: Your October Show
she has picked holes in her guitar. she IS fierce... all stalking aside... her performances are ... LEGEN- wait for it 'cause you're lactose intolerant-DARY. there has never been a better Concert night than catcing Dead Can Dance @ the Boulder theatre, then running down pearl street, and paying $2 to see Melissa in a pool hall.

Fans since the Massive Blur / opening for Morrissey days rule!

Re: Your October Show
Well, sure, she's fierce, and definitely a good performer, I'm not calling that into doubt. But still, not the best live performer I've ever seen.
