miscellany (Freezepop at the Catwalk)

I feel like I need a new post, but I don't have a particular topic.

One of my favorite Boston bands, Freezepop, came to town lastThursday* night and I got to go to the show. Seattle was their second-to-last stop on a two-week West Coast tour, and yet they showed a phenomenal amount of energy and good spirits on stage; they were clearly enjoying the show a lot, and even seemed to be a bit overwhelmed by the very enthusiastic crowd response. I got to speak to lizenthusiasm and she said we were the best audience they'd had on the tour, which was very good to hear. As a New Englander who loves my new home of Seattle as much as I love Boston, I'm happy that my fellow Seattleites gave one of my favorite bands such a warm welcome.

(* I tried making this post last night but something happened to my internet connection just as I tried to update - my computer still claimed I was connected to the internet, but I couldn't connect to any sites whatsoever. Very annoying.)

You might want to look at the unofficial LJ fan group freezepop4ever for more about their show and the band.

Other topics...

I'm still adjusting to braces. They still occasionally catch my cheek painfully, mainly when trying to eat, and they still cause me to occasionally bite down on my lips as well while trying to eat. Hmm, one month down already, eleven or so to go.

With $4,500 worth of metal (and related orthodontic services) in my mouth, I still haven't decided whether to go home for Christmas, as that will undoubtedly add another $500 to $700 to my credit card bills. However, I did just find out my friend Eldy will be back in Nashua for Christmas, and also my friend Jase (parkbenchzine) just had a baby girl, so there's a couple good reasons to make a visit (though I don't know whether I'd actually get a chance to visit Jase and see the new baby).

Sorry kids, nothing new to say about pants. The colored mid-rise briefs are working out nicely, thank you very much.

I've started training in aikido with my friend John. It's good to finally be getting back into some kind of martial arts training, though I still miss forms and weapons.

I've also started playing my violin again, messing around with my friend Tony S. (see his band Library Science) on guitar, playing melody or accompaniement to songs he's made up. I'm a bit surprised actually at how much fun it is to get my violin out again, but to be just making up stuff instead of sawing away at classical music.

Guess that's about it for now...

Heh. :-) Seriously? I need a little work, but I wouldn't rule that out, either. I'm not about to become a full-time rock musician, but it'd amuse me a lot to find myself doing some shows in a band in a club.

So, I can't recall whether you play an instrument or "just" sing.

Too bad you couldn't make it to Freezepop, they were good and I think you'd have liked them a lot.

As for favorite color pants... well, my favorite color of all is blue, and my preferred clothes colors are blue, green, grey and black, though I've added a little maroon and rust-orange in with my shirts. So I wear blue jeans and black jeans, and the colored underwear I bought comes in a few shades of blue, grey and black.

Whee! I found a comment.

I do play piano/keyboards but I'm a bit rusty, I think! I'm trying to learn the guitar, but it's not going well. *sigh*

I plan to become a rock star before I die. Uhm. Sometime.

I just imagined pants in rust-orange. Ooops. :D

sis
great idea, zannah! yes, phil what color undies make you feel the most sassy? i'm particularly fond of my dark blue ones with the silkscreen scooter on it.

and yay yay yay for the violin! jen was inspired to take hers out the other night when chris and &roo came over to jam, but then she got embarrassed. =( so i'm hoping that we can play together more often...

and tell tony that his poem the 13 psalms of pilgrim will be having a future as part of my trombopera. i have met the absolutely coolest trombonist ever and i'm really psyched about writing another piece for her.

Re: sis
Underwear doesn't make me feel sassy. It's just underwear.

...okay, okay, maybe I felt a little sassy the first time I tried on the black underwear...

Jen plays the violin? How come I don't remember knowing that? I'm sure this should not be news to me but I'm surprised nonetheless. I am making a mix CD called "Fuck Charlie Daniels!", featuring violinists in pop/rock that are not Daniels, perhaps I should send Jen a copy.

Tony will be psyched to hear that, he's been wondering whether you'd done anything with the poems and wants you to know he's got plenty more if those aren't suitable. I will email him your comment.

Re: sis
Oh and "trombopera"? What a great word. It's got "bop" in the middle, which makes me wonder whether it'll be a bebop-style opera featuring trombones, or whether the "bop" is just coincidental.

Re: sis
the bop is coincidental. i was hoping to use some sort of cowboy song, 'cause tony's poem starts with pilgrim entering a bar. oh, and i need some sort of gregorian chant for all the religious allusions.

Re: sis
I don't know anything about Nickel Creek, and I'm not really familiar with anything by the Corrs. Wade of course is going on, as are the Dambuilders and the Wonderstuff.

So hey, what's your story for Christmas? Are you going to be around Nashua at all or will I have to drive to darkest Maine to see you?

Re: sis
uhm... not sure... if there is to be a gathering in NH... then well I'll sharpen the sword, uhm, I mean the WIT. and try and convince Heidi and Morgan that they want to go to NH to see people. chances are, a meeting in portland for dinner or something is more likely though... so far from home now with baby. I'll check into it.
